5=Uploaded on Nov 28, 2011 "A term used by teachers to describe the process of ensuring that classroom lessons run smoothly despite disruptive behavior by students." Listed below are several techniques, ideas, resources, and tips for teachers to hone the right skills to conquer their classroom:
1. Start the year tough.
Many teachers make the mistake of starting the school year with a poor discipline plan or without any classroom management plan at all. It is so much easier to start tough and then lighten up, then to start light and discipline more. At the beginning of the year, students quickly assess the situation and realize what they will be allowed to get away with. Starting the year tough will give you control and flexibility.
2. Be fair to all students.

HOLIDAY LINKS
ANTI-BULLYING
National Bullying Prevention Month happens during October.
National Bullying Prevention Center has a page full of resources with facts, informational handouts, toolkits, and educational activities. Facing History, Facing Ourselves is a site combatting racism and prejudice. These resources take you beyond anti-bullying month with lesson plans, videos, podcasts, webinars and much more on topics such as antisemitism, civil rights, and genocide.
CHARACTER EDUCATION
I spent several years teaching The Six Pillars of Character® and I certainly saw results and higher student awareness of character. I saw quite a difference in the two years I have taught without the program implemented school wide. I hope your school has this program or something as equally effective.
COLUMBUS DAY
One of the most reliable resources I found were from History Channel. This link provides concise in depth text about the celebration, not to mention an awesome video you can show students. Also useful is a great PDF file from Palmbeachschools.org which provides many links related to Columbus Day including printables and particular research areas about the topic. If you're looking for a great powerpoint, check out
this one which provides in depth information in a student friendly way.

Bio does a great job providing facts and a great video on the man and his legacy.
