Gloria Bailey was my second grade teacher. She was this big lady with a husky voice and very strict. Some of the kids in my class were afraid of her. If you got in trouble with her or didn't do your homework, she would keep you after school and make you clean the room. She had this reputation for being mean but I'll never forget Christmas in her class. She bought each of us these stuffed bears with a graduation hat. She told us it was to remind us to invite her to our graduations. I was so happy I cried.
When it was time for my graduation ten years ago, I found out she wouldn't be able to come as she was in a nursing facility. I went to see her after the graduation in my cap and gown. We both weeped so much that day. I'll never forget Mrs. Bailey. What a wonderful human being, to be able to make such positive impact on so many people. Thank you to all the teachers out there who aspire to be like my sweet Mrs. Bailey.
